Sing, Sing a Song

Summer's Melody

I've written a few times about this space, my landlocked, suburban oasis. Shady in the morning, Alicia burbling her repetitive fountain song between the grapefruit "trees" (plants, really) that are a product of a long-ago breakfast and the bottle "tree" that never needs water, but which gets its glass blooms replaced every summer season.

With seven more school days left 'til I clock out for two months, I've retreated to my back deck to ponder life's mysteries ~ such as why the hummingbird hardly ever stays long enough for me to snap his picture.

Yes, Mr. Hummer was here just now, flighty as ever. But Alicia is my rock. I think I need to spend a little more time with her today.

So close to summer break... deep breath.... I hope your final week is sans chaos and passes quickly. Enjoy your peaceful oasis.

Such a cozy little sanctuary. One winery out this way has blue bottles. Did you make the tree or I've noticed they now see the metal base already done?

I love your special space. Yea to two weeks left! We finished May27th over here and go back July 27th. I would like your schedule better. August is a better month than June over here.

Lovin' your little oasis and I spied the hummer feeder BEFORE you mentioned it!

I know, you're envious of me because the 26th of May was our last day of school, but believe me, my body hasn't settled down yet. I think I need an Alicia to contemplate and soothe my soul!

SHADOWY DINNER

A shadow, a shadow, a shadow you say?
A shadow is coming to dinner today?

Oh, what shall we feed it, and what will it eat?
Just toss down a few rays of light at its feet,

And watch its dark mouth gobble up every ray,
But be sure, my friend, you don’t get in its way;

Keep out of the light so it won’t gobble you.
(If I were the hostess, that’s just what I’d do.)

A shadow is easy to feed, so they say,
So welcome your shadow to dinner today.

I need a backyard like that. I used to have a lot of flowers that hummingbirds just loved to dine on everyday. My yard is bare now.

Dearie, spend your QT filling out that Bottle Tree! (I think we all know what I mean!) Hang in there. I join the ranks of The Leisured on Thursday. We can make it.
