Summer School

Summer School

Gosh, 2 kitty-cat posts in a row. Could this mean that summer is only 3 days away?

Meet Piper & Marlowe. They belong to my frind Nance, she of The Dept. of Nance & The Brian Williams Tie Report Archives. For more info on why a high school English teacher in NE Ohio would care one iota about the NBC Anchor's neckware, you'll need to check out my explanation. I found Nance thru an article in my local news rag.

Anywho, back to the matter at hand. I recently received the sweetest bit o' cyber-correspondence from Nance the other day.

"Just wanted you to know that your Target gift card was well used," said Nance, ever the gracious winner. You see, she won my most recent Target Gift Card Giveaway, held in honor of my 2nd Blogoversary. And she waited, lo these 3 months, to use her bling in the best possible way.

"Over the long holiday weekend, I finally gave in and adopted two new kittens to replace our family pets that we had to have put down a few years ago," Nancy said. "I missed the cats, especially TravisCat, terribly--more than I had thought I would--but I agonized over getting another one (or two) this close to my retirement and our eventual move."

But, wait...there's more cuteness involved here: "Anyway--we used the Target card to get new supplies for the kittens. I've attached a picture. Marlowe is the grey fluffy one, and her brother (really--they were littermates) is Piper. They not only look completely different, their personalities are also polar opposites. She is a terror: bouncy, mischievous, fearless. He has been ill; he got a post-op bout of pneumonia due to stress from neutering, so he's been quiet and timid and very lovey-dovey. But he's been getting better and more curious and adventurous."

And, every the proper English teacher, Nance's concluding paragraph is short, to-the-point & packs a punch.

"So, thanks to your prize, they have some nice accoutrements. I've told them "Aunt Melissa" is their benefactress! LOL."

Between y'all & moi, I never thought a proper gal like Nance would employ an acronym like LOL, but that's entirely beside the point.

And the point of this post, besides thanking Nance for her "thank you," is to announce another Target Gift Card Giveaway. No, you don't have to bend over backwards, you don't have to jump thru any hoops. You just have to tell me, in the comments section of this post, how you think I should spend my Summer Vacation, which commences at approximately noon on Thursday.

Contest closes Thursday, June 24, at 11:59 p.m., EST. I'll pick the winner via some Random Generator thingy & will post felicidades on Friday morning.

Thanks, Nance! And thanks to all of y'all who enjoy cyber-scribbling.

Very lovely way to use a Giveaway! I'm sure the kitties have found a good home.

How wonderful of you to present these Giveaways. Being a Mom of two little children, I'm not the one who decides on vacations ;). But I'm wishing you a wonderful time for this Summer. Have a great week, Melissa.

Were I lucky enough to actually BE the Scholastic Scribe, I'd spend my Summer Vacation at the pool with a good book, hang out with mi familia, and perhaps make a road trip to the biggest ball of twine in America - which may be in Wisconsin, Kansas, Texas or Minnesota, depending on how you determine what constitutes the biggest ball of twine.

I think you should spend your Summer vacation writing your novel. Put in 4 hours every day, 5 days per week. Consider it your part time job. The rest of the time you can chill.

And, speaking of Target Gift Cards. The one I won saved me some major embarrassment. I had to go to a business meeting and on the way I zipped into a drive thru to get a soda. The nice attendant lady thrust a 32 oz. soda in a 24 oz. cup through my car window, thus assuring that sloshing soda soaked my shirt from cuff to armpit to waist. Since the impression I was hoping to make wasn't "slob", I dashed to the Target across the street, picked up a new blouse and a package of baby wipers, and paid for them with your gift card. Thank you!

Awww. Precious kitties. :) I'd spend mine on animal supplies, too, probably. :)

I think you should spend your holiday at a beach reading books. Yeah, the whole thing. That wouldn't be a problem, would it?

Even though I'm a puppy girl, those kittens are precious.

Outer Banks can you hear Melissa calling your name? She's coming soon and will spend some of her time collecting shells and seaglass. She'll be taking photos of the wonders she beholds. She'll also spend some time feeling peaceful and calm enough to write a bit for her book. She'll keep all her blogging friends amused. She'll do this with joy because she is there with you.

First: Take a couple of weeks for totally for yourself and do nothing, veg, relax, plan nothing, sleep late and do what you want when you want. THEN, go to Rehoboth Beach with your family. It is a nice little get away!

Hey, Melissa, thanks for featuring Piper and Marlowe, and thanks again for the gift card that made their transition home a more comfortable one. They are doing wonderfully, and Piper especially is thriving. I hope your l'entrée dans l'été at the OBX is wonderful, and followed by more leisure and relaxation.

For readers who want a bit more of Piper and Marlowe, here is the original post.

Two gorgeous kittens! Makes me want a third one...

As for a vacation.. if I could, I would love to go on a cooking getaway. Go somewhere fabulous and learn some gourmet cooking tips. Sort of a win/win.

With all the work you've done during the school months, I think you should live in Alaska for a coupld of months with nothing but hunting and fishing gear with you, and maybe a case or two beers.

ugh...been off the computer for a few days and just read your previous post...I totally agree about that list. I started working on mine this morning during my prep period. My principal sent out an email earlier this week "reminding" us that even though the kids get out at 10:15 tomorrow, we will not be allowed to check out until 2:15. Awesome.

Best way to use your summer vacation....hmmm...well, it's even a hair shorter than mine will be, so I would start with some mild drinking. =) Also some reading, and I know you'll want to visit those chicas of yours. A visit or two to the OBX, and soak up some rays, and that sounds like a good summer to me.

Looks like your giftcard was put to good use!!

I think you should spend your summer vacation teaching summer school (kidding!) -- I'd say trying some totally bizarre things that you've always wanted to try but don't have time for during the school year...
