OK, I admit it. My post title is a bit disingenous. No Willie Nelson, just Ella Numera Una & moi. We've been to Hell & Back, but finally reached our destination~beautiful Madison, WI.
First off, Places Rated Magazine has named Madison as the 10th most-livable city in the good ol' US of A. This burg, the capital of the Dairy State, is darn near perfect, so I'd love to know the 9 spots ahead of Madison on the list. I'm actually a tad jealous that Ella Una gets to reside here the next 3 years. But it sure was a long time gettin' here.
As you may recall, we left NC's awesome OBX on Friday, headed out on The Great American Silo Tour. Here's a Superior Snap of one of the wild Spanish Mustangs, who reside north of Corolla, NC. Ella Numera Dos is responsible for this Superior Snap of a foal frolicking near the surf. After 12+ hours on the road, overnited on the outskirts of lovely Toledo, OH. First half of The Great American Silo Tour done, & done!
On Saturday, somewhere west of Toledo where the Ohio Turnpike morphs into the Indiana Turnpike, we saw this. Yup, you guessed it. One of Blink 182's Summer Tour trucks. The guys must have been on their way to a concert date in Minneapolis, according to their schedule. Ella Dos snapped this 'un, too. She has more for you on her blog, MOO.
We were rockin' & rollin' as we approached South Bend, IN. We passed this rust-bucket, and Ella Numera Dos took a few more Superior Snaps. At the time, we thought the upbeat message scrawled on this wagon's rear window portended a lovely afternoon to come...
...until, that is, we hit Chi-Town. The Windy City was not at all welcoming. Ella Numera Una's Civic crapped out on the Dan Ryan Expressway~that would be the old-timey, congested, nasty elevated route that books it right thru the center of downtown. Fortunately, we got an almost-immediate tow. Here's the kid's car departing for the garage. Do you know how difficult it is to find a mechanic on a Saturday afternoon?
5 hours, a trip to O'Hare for a rent car (anyone in the mood for a graphic description of Dante's 5 Circles of Hell?) & several dollars later, we were on the road again. Ella Una's car is still stranded at that mechanic's near downtown. Waiting for a part, but of course. The car's supposed to be finito sometime today. One of the kid's college buds is a Chicagoan. She's gonna pick up the heap this afternoon (fingers crossed) & drive it up to Madison for her.
The final snap in this series was shot by Dos as we cruised up the highway somewhere near Oshkosh, WI. Fireworks, for some reason, greeted our arrival. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord, & pass the ammunition...
If I'm required to write an essay at one of those insipid teacher back-to-school inservices in a couple of weeks, I'll have to pen something about The Great American Silo Tour of 2009. Or Dante's Inferno. Take your pick.
