She never pondered the human condition.
I think of the late Phillipine First Lady every time I see this snap of the homeless guy sitting outside an even more dilapidated movie theater in San Francisco's Mission District. Mrs. Marcos, you may recall, turned into a pop culture icon in the mid-'80s because of her ostentatious spending habits. When she and hubby Ferdinand ended up fleeing the Phillipines in 1986, she left behind 15 mink coats, 508 gowns, 888 handbags and 1,060 pairs of shoes, according to Wikipedia.
When asked about her profligate spending, Mrs. Marcos most famously said, "People say I'm extravagant because I want to be surrounded by beauty. But tell me, who wants to be surrounded by garbage?"

That is a beautiful shot.
Your narrative was lovely, too. A reminder is necessary, sometimes. Your six words were brilliant.
Melissa - very thought provoking. I've been visiting Moo - and left a comment or too.
To men, the beggar may look garbage but in the eyes of God there's' no rich nor poor nor garbage or whatever..we are all one.
Sharp photo! Nice one.
My garbage is now up.
the picture speaks aloud! beautiful!
What a picture! Almost didn't even need the six words. Thank you for humbling me this morning. We could all use that once in a while (more like every day)! God bless you.
a picture can speak volumes...even without a description, how profound.
happy six word saturday:)

Very moving picture!
I played too :)
Amazing shot, so full of emotion.
That was an original take on the week's theme and a good post.
Have a great weekend.
I wonder what fixing the surroundings would do to the picture... would it not make a difference in the humanity there too? Yes, a very thought provoking shot.
My construction trash or garbage is up.
I am an seo consultant and deal with millionaires everyday and the amount of money they have, l cannot believe they do not do more.
Wow, way to get everyone thinking on a Saturday morning :)
great picture! Great 6 words also! Happy Saturday!
The picture speaks much more than 6 words.
Wow that picture is captivating.
Very interesting post. Love the photo, love the six words, love the additional words.
Thank you for always playing in such thoughtful ways.
A crass person who nevertheless makes us think.
What a poignant post.
Pathetic! Was Imelda really that happy being surrounded by all her gazillion shoes and gowns? I bet not...
That quote always gets my goat. The answer is no one...no one wants to be surrounded in garbage. So, instead of having thousands of shoes, why not give so that guy doesn't have to live in garbage.
Her spirit shines through her photos. She must be a wonderful girl.
