Taking One for the Team?

Just Picture This: Your Humble Scribe, in the final day of preparing to Welcome Her Cherubs, was on a roll. Syllabi Xeroxed; New, Crazy Schedule (the onslaught of PLT and "Spartan Time," but those are the Subjects of Yet Another Post!) more-or-less understood; Beatles Posters on the walls, classroom tables & chairs arranged.

And then, It Happened.

To Make a Long Story Short, we have in our possession 2 Milk Crates. They hold the work of our Journalistas during the year. Cherub turns in story; Scribe grades, transfers story to milk crate. Cherub retrieves graded story, makes corrections, puts story in stringbook (an old-fashioned term, used by Ink-Stained Wretches of Yesteryear to describe the notebook that contained all their newspaper clips; a portfolio, of sorts).

As our Final Act before leaving for the 3-day weekend, we decided that The Milk Crates needed to be in position for the first day of school. We reached up, and pulled the first bulky crate down from its perch atop The Barney Cabinet (Yes, yet another Subject for yet another Post!).

And then.

Second crate came sliding along, off the cabinet. Following its Brother in Arms, no doubt. Sliding, sliding, sliding. Until it fell, and...

...clunked Your Not-So-Nimble Scribe in the forehead. Ouch!

Needless to say, We Were Stunned. Literally. Some blood, a huge knot, & a bruise of every-changing colors later, we shook off the injury, picked up The Milk Crates, secured them in their proper positions for the school year, turned off the lights, and locked the door.

The Scholastic Scribe Has Left The Building. At least for the 3-day weekend. Oh, we hope the swelling goes down before Tuesday. Don't wanna scare the freshmen!

Boy does that look painful. I am so glad you are okay. Isn't it just like a teacher to make sure everything is in place before leaving the room? I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

We aren't usually evacuated where I live, which is about 45 minutes from New Orleans, so we wont leave home unless we are told to. There are evacuations going on now from New Orleans & many surrounding areas. The mayor of New Orleans just called this the "mother of all storms." Thanks for thinking of me! I will check out your Sunday fun!

Yikes! But I must say in some twisted way, it's rather comforting to know that someone else is just as much a klutz as I am. ;-) Hope you heal by Tuesday.
